1. How We Collect & Use Your Personal Data

Personal data means any data that, alone or together with other data, can identify a natural person. Depending on how you use CamScan, we may collect and use data as described below. We do not require you to create an account to use the core scanning features.

(1) Scan Documents

When you scan documents, we need access to your device’s Camera permission (and, where applicable, Photos / Storage permission) to capture and process images you take. Processing of scan images for crop, enhancement, and local document creation is performed to provide the scan feature you initiate. Even after you grant Camera permission, processing is limited to photos you take or select on your own initiative.

(2) Import Pictures

When you import pictures from your device, we need access to your device’s Album / Photos (and related storage) permission to process the pictures you select.

(3) Save, Export & Manage Documents

When you save, export (including PDF or image export), organize folders, add watermarks, or otherwise manage documents on your device, we need access to device Storage / Files (as required by your OS version) so that documents you create can be stored, read, and exported locally on your device. Document content you create is stored on your device for the purpose of providing Our Service to you.

(4) OCR (Text Recognition)

When you use OCR, text recognition is used to extract text from images or pages you choose. This is provided to fulfill the OCR feature you request. Where on-device recognition is used, recognition runs on your device for that purpose.

(5) Scan QR Code

When you scan a QR code, we need access to your device’s Camera permission to recognize the code you aim at and show the result (for example, copy text or open a URL in the system browser). Processing is limited to scans you initiate.

(6) Add Watermark

When you add a text watermark, we process the document page or image you select and the watermark text you enter, solely to generate the watermarked output you request.

(7) Share Documents

When you share documents, sharing is completed through your device’s system share sheet or apps you choose. We do not request Contacts permission for sharing.

(8) Network Access, Analytics & Ads

To provide Our Service, serve ads, measure performance, and apply remote configuration (for example, ad frequency controls), we need Internet / Network access. In connection with analytics and advertising, we and our partners may process certain device and usage data as described in Section 4.

(9) Customer Service

If you contact us by email with a complaint, suggestion, or feedback, we may collect the content of your message and the contact details you provide (such as your email address) in order to respond and improve Our Service.

2. How We Store Your Personal Data

2.1 Local documents. Scanned images, PDFs, folders, watermarks, and similar content you create in CamScan are stored locally on your device, unless you yourself export or share them to another app or service.

2.2 Analytics & advertising data. Data processed by Google Firebase, Google AdMob, and advertising mediation partners may be processed on servers operated by those providers (which may include locations such as the United States and other countries where those providers operate).

2.3 We retain personal data only as long as needed for the purposes in this Privacy Policy, or as required by applicable law. When retention is no longer necessary, we delete or anonymize the data where reasonably practicable. You can delete local documents in the app or by uninstalling the app / clearing app data.

3. How We Share Your Personal Data

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share personal data with other companies, organizations, or individuals except in the following cases:

(a) With your consent: After obtaining your consent, we may share information you have authorized with specified parties.

(b) As required by law: We may share information as required by applicable laws, legal process, or enforceable government requests, or to protect rights, safety, and security.

(c) Service providers: We use third-party providers to operate analytics, remote configuration, and advertising. These providers process data on our behalf or as independent controllers of ad/analytics services, as described in Section 4.

(d) Business transfers: If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, personal data may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy or equivalent protections.

Where we engage processors, we take reasonable steps consistent with applicable law to require appropriate confidentiality and security measures.

4. Advertising & Analytics

CamScan includes advertising and analytics to support a free product experience and to improve Our Service.

4.1 Google Firebase

We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Remote Config (provided by Google). These services may collect app events, device and app identifiers, and configuration-related data to help us understand feature usage (for example, scan and export funnels) and to remotely configure ad-related settings (such as enable switches and frequency caps).

More information: Google Privacy Policy · Firebase

4.2 Google AdMob & Mediation

We use Google AdMob (and AdMob Mediation) to show ads, which may include app open, banner, interstitial, and rewarded ads. Ad serving may involve processing of advertising identifiers (such as Google Advertising ID on Android), IP address, device and app information, and ad interaction data (requests, impressions, clicks, failures).

Mediation may involve additional ad networks configured in our AdMob account (for example, partners such as Meta Audience Network and Pangle International, when enabled). Those partners may receive device and advertising-related data necessary to fill and measure ads under their own policies.

More information:

You may reset or limit your advertising identifier in your device settings (Android: Settings → Google → Ads, or the equivalent path on your device). Availability of personalized ads also depends on your region and platform controls (including any applicable consent or opt-out mechanisms).

4.3 What we do not do in this Policy’s current product scope

We do not, as part of CamScan’s current features described here: require account registration; collect contacts for sharing; provide a separate ID-card scanning product flow as a distinct data purpose beyond general document scanning you choose to perform; or provide in-app PDF signature that uploads signature biometrics to our servers.

5. Links to Third-Party Websites, Products, and Services

Our Service may open links (for example, a URL from a QR code) in your system browser or other apps you choose. Those third parties’ privacy practices are governed by their own policies. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of third-party websites or apps you open.

Third-party SDKs currently used for analytics and ads are described in Section 4. If we add or change material third-party SDKs, we will update this Privacy Policy.

6. How We Protect Your Personal Data

We take the security of your personal data seriously and use reasonable administrative and technical measures appropriate to the nature of the data to help prevent unauthorized access, disclosure, misuse, alteration, damage, or loss.

If a personal data security incident occurs that requires notification under applicable law, we will take required steps to notify you and/or regulators as required, which may include email or in-app notice where feasible.

7. How to Access & Control Your Personal Data

You may:

7.1 Access / manage local content — View, edit, export, or delete documents stored in the app on your device.

7.2 Revoke permissions — Withdraw Camera, Photos/Album, or Storage permissions in your device system settings. Some features will then be unavailable.

7.3 Limit ads personalization — Use device advertising settings and any regional privacy controls available to you.

7.4 Delete analytics-related app data — Uninstall the app or clear app data; note that data already processed by Google or ad partners is subject to those providers’ retention practices.

7.5 Contact us — To request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or portability where applicable law gives you those rights, email us at the address in Section 11. We may need to verify your request.

If you are in the EEA, UK, or another region with similar rights, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

8. How We Process Minors’ Personal Data

Our Service is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children as defined by applicable law (for example, under 13 in the United States, or the age of digital consent in your country).

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal data to us, please contact us. If we learn that we have collected a child’s personal data without required consent, we will delete it as soon as reasonably practicable.

9. International Transfers of Your Personal Data

Our Service may be used in different countries. Analytics and advertising providers may process data in countries other than where you live, including the United States. Where required by law, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses used by those providers, or other lawful transfer mechanisms they describe in their documentation).

10. Updates to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and revise the “Updated Date” above. For material changes, we will provide a more prominent notice where required (for example, in-app notice) and obtain consent again where legally required. We will not reduce your rights under this Privacy Policy without your consent where consent is required.

“Material changes” include, without limitation: material changes to processing purposes or data types; changes in ownership or organization affecting personal data; changes to main sharing recipients; material changes to your rights; or changes to contact channels for privacy matters.
